Susan Deakins

Susan Deakins joined Penn Mutual in 1983 and currently serves the company as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and is a member of the Executive Team.

Ms. Deakins is responsible for Penn Mutual’s overall financial management function, including financial measurement and reporting, capital and expense management, financial planning, projections, tax planning, and benefits and payroll administration. She and her financial management team are stewards for the financial strength of the company, influencing Penn Mutual’s financial position in order to best execute the company’s strategy.

Her career with the company began as a member of the Penn Mutual actuarial development program and has included a succession of progressively responsible positions within its actuarial and financial operations. Her breadth of responsibilities over the years in such areas as product pricing, liability valuation, modeling, actuarial assumption governance, and profitability analysis and as corporate actuary have greatly benefited the company.

Ms. Deakins graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
